Game & Fish
The North Dakota Century Code mandates that the Game & Fish department distribute licenses and applications to the general public through county auditor offices, as well as from their Bismarck office. County Auditors may also distribute licenses through local vendors. Currently licenses are available in McKenzie County at the Auditor’s office, One Stop and Badlands Hardware in Watford City, R&L Oil in Alexander, and the Discount Tobacco Shop in East Fairview, ND.
Instant Licensing on the Web site allows you to purchase and print out fishing, small game, and crane licenses 24 hours a day with your credit card. No service fees are charged to use this feature. The Website link is below.
The Instant Licensing by Telephone site allows you to order most licenses or apply for lottery permits with a credit card, 24 hours a day. A service charge of $4 is assessed for each transaction under $70. For transactions of $70 or more, the service charge is $10. You can then just record and carry with you the number the agent gives you. This service is not available for licenses requiring a tag. For those licenses, you will be mailed an application. The number is 1-800-406-6409.
In addition to the deer license, hunters must also possess a fishing, hunting and furbearer certificate and a General Game and Habitat license or Sportsmen's license.
Licenses for big game such as big horn sheep, moose and elk are available on a more limited basis. Contact the County Auditor’s Office or ND Game & Fish for additional information.
Beginning in 2009, non-resident small game licenses will only be available through vendors utilizing the Online Licensing System, through the Department's website or the toll-free licensing number.
