McKenzie County Enacts Fire Emergency and Burn Ban Order on Use of Fireworks

McKenzie County has enacted a Fire Emergency and Burn Ban Order on the use of Fireworks, effective June 29, 2017 at 12:00 am Central Time, until July 5, 2017 at 7 pm Central Time. The McKenzie County Commissioners will discuss the retention or dismissal of the Order at their July 5th Commission Meeting.

The Fire Emergency and Burn Ban Order is in effect regardless of the Fire Danger Rating. The Fire Emergency and Burn Ban Order dated April 18, 2017 is also still in effect.

"The safety of our citizens, firefighters, property and visitors is of utmost importance," Chairman Douglas
Nordby stated. "We have been monitoring closely the drought conditions in our County, and after speaking with five of our Fire Chiefs, we have determined it is too risky at this time to allow the use of fireworks in these circumstances."

We all love our county and wish we could celebrate the 4th of July as we usually do, and hopefully our celebration can be festive in other ways this year. As soon as we know that the health, safety and well-being of our community are not put in danger, we will dismiss the ban."

McKenzie County is served by eight volunteer Fire Departments who supply equipment and personnel as first responders. The Sheriff's Department, EMT and Ambulance Services respond as well.
