McKenzie County is currently accepting applications for a full time Veteran Services Officer
Under administrative direction, advises and aids
veterans or dependents in presenting disability, insurance, or pension claims
for benefits under applicable laws
Advises veteran on insurance, vocational, and other matters, working in cooperation with Veterans Administration and other agencies. Drives Veterans to appointments, sometimes in other cities.
Participates in or initiates civic functions, such as panel discussions and mass communication programs, to inform public of services rendered and rights and benefits of veterans and dependents.
Reviews legislation, regulations, and precedents and studies veteran's medical report and service history to evaluate and determine validity of claim.
Prepares claim forms and briefs and assembles pertinent evidence.
Requests hearing before government board and presents brief
Reviews government board decision for grounds for appeal
Prepares bulletins and correspondence to acquaint others with current activities and legislation.
May offer technical advice at congressional or other governmental hearings.
Training and Experience Typically Required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completion of a job-related 2-year
Associate Degree such as in public administration
Honorable discharge from a branch of the
1 or more years job-related experience such as in the supervision and
coordination of benefit programs. Note: additional years of job-related
experience may substitute for the Associate Degree.
Salary Range of $32.91 to $35.62 per hour, DOE
