Compliance Officer I

McKenzie County currently has an outstanding opportunity for a full time position as a Compliance Officer I.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Land-Use Planning, Landscape Architect, Natural Resource Management, or related field and up to two (2) years of Planning and Zoning or related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Ability to interpret Federal, State, and local codes and ordinances governing building construction, nuisance abatement, and zoning
  • Knowledge of principles of zoning ordinances and enforcement
  • Extensive knowledge of computers, computer programs, scanning equipment and various office machines, modern office practices, procedures, equipment, record keeping, and filing systems
  • Strong organizational skills and both verbal and written communication
  • Willingness and desire to learn new and challenging tasks


  • Organize, review, and enforce current Zoning Ordinances as adopted by the McKenzie County Planning Commission
  • Review or assist in the review of moderately difficult development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations
  • Collect a variety of statistical data and prepare reports and maps
  • Evaluate or assist in the evaluation of re-zoning, ordinance amendments, site plans, special use permits, variances, and other proposals
  • Conduct compliance duties related to code enforcement, plat reviews, and assist with development of comprehensive plans

Salary Range: $22.59-$24.45 per hour, DOE
