PLANNING AND ZONING ADMINISTRATOR

McKENZIE COUNTY

 

The Planning and Zoning Administrator implements and administers the review and enforcement of all current Zoning Ordinances as adopted by the McKenzie County Planning Commission. The administrator inspects and enforces residential, commercial, industrial, other buildings and properties before, during, and after construction to ensure they meet provisions, safety codes, health codes, and approved plans.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :  

  •           Bachelor’s degree in city, county, regional planning or engineering, with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in planning and zoning, agricultural inspections, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge of skills and abilities for this position.
  •           Must possess a valid driver’s license

·         Knowledge in operations, services, and functions of a comprehensive building inspections and code enforcement program

·         Principles and techniques of building inspection, zoning ordinances and enforcement thereof.

·         Knowledge of housing, building, and zoning codes and requirements.

·         Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local codes and ordinances governing building constructions, nuisance abatement, and zoning.

·         Knowledge of the accepted safety standards and methods of building constructions for commercial and residential buildings.

·         Ability to interpret and enforce building, housing, zoning, and sign codes and regulations.

·         Ability to determine if construction systems conform to the County requirements.

·         Able to respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.

·         Identify hazardous conditions in the construction projects.

·         Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing and spreadsheets.

·         Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

 


GENERAL DUTIES :

  •           Interprets and enforces McKenzie County Zoning Ordinances, applicable construction codes, land use, planning, public health and safety, and other restrictions.
  •           Observes conditions and issues notices for corrections to persons responsible for conformance. Obtains evidence and prepares reports concerning violations which have not been corrected. Resolves inspection issues and concerns raised by contractors, public health codes violations, and other outside parties.
  •           Work directly with appointed and elected Board members to establish a long-range plan that aligns the Planning & Zoning goals and objectives with community needs; formulate and recommend policies to the Planning & Zoning Board; and implement and execute Planning & Zoning policies.
  •           Interprets legal requirements and recommends compliance procedures to contractors, craft workers, and owners. Reviews new codes and ordinances in the building and zoning fields. Prepares revisions and amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, as well as maintains awareness of changes in other related fields.
  •           Works with the States Attorney’s office to prosecute violations of the Zoning Ordinance and testifies at court hearing pertaining to the violations.
  •           Process applications with required permits, and present special permits to the appropriate bodies.
  •          Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


 

Salary of $82,000 - $92,000 ANNUALLY , DOE
