Childcare Licensing Information

Childcare licensing is required for anyone providing care to more than 5 children or more than 3 infants under 2 years of age. Licensed providers can participate in the Child Care Assistance Program, if they care for children who qualify, and the USDA Food Program. Interested in becoming a foster Parent?

Myth: I can't be a foster parent because I am not married.
Fact: Foster parents come from all different backgrounds and can be married or single.

Myth:  I can't be a foster parent because I do not own my own home.
Fact:  You do not need to own your own home to be a foster parent, all that is needed is proof of insurance and a home study.

Myth:  I do not have my own children so I can't be a foster parent.
Fact:  Foster parents come from a variety of backgrounds, some have their own children living in the home, and some do not have any children of their own.

Myth:  Once a child is placed with you, you receive no outside help or guidance.
Fact:  Foster care is about working as a team to meet the needs of the child, foster parents are a part of a team which includes social workers, therapists, school personnel, and the child's biological parents.

Myth:  I work outside the home and can't foster parent because I am not a stay-at-home parent.
Fact:  In many foster families both parents work outside the home.  Financial assistance for daycare is provided for a licensed daycare provider when needed for foster families.

Myth:  I am too old to be a foster parent.
Fact:  Many foster parents have already parented their own children and still feel they have more to offer, they may be retired or still working, there is a minimum age requirement of 21 but no upper age limit.
